A delegation of 160 athletes will represent Peru at the I Cali-Valle 2021 Junior Pan American Games. The national delegation will compete against nearly 3,500 athletes from 41 countries in the continent’s largest sports competition for young people to be held in the Colombian Pacific. between Thursday, November 25 and Sunday, December 5, 2021.
The athletes, who come from various seedbeds and clubs, have been preparing throughout the year in different competitions for this youth event. In the Peruvian case, athletics will have the largest delegation (17 athletes), according to the list defined by the Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP).
These Youth Games will deliver direct quotas to the champions in individual sports for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
The competencies
Peruvian athletes will participate in 28 disciplines: badminton, bowling, speed boating, BMX Racing cycling, track cycling, diving, fencing, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming, artistic swimming, speed skating. , modern pentathlon, rowing, skateboarding, softball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, triathlon, sailing, volleyball and beach volleyball.
The highlights
There are 20 athletes from the Regatas Lima delegation who will be present in 10 disciplines.
1. Alexia Sotomayor (15 years old): Young promise of swimming in the country, nothing in competitions since the age of 5 and has surpassed the national records 70 times. A week ago, Alexia won three gold medals and one silver at the Lima 2021 South American Water Sports Championship and also aims for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 3. Ignacio Sánchez Bringas (22 years old): Recognized athlete and has been South American Under 20 champion in Guyana 2017. He participated in the combined events of the Decathlon.
4. Nicolás Bourouncle (19 years old): In Karate, Nicolás has been Champion in the USA OPEN 2019 Tournament, in the U-16 and U-17 Elite category. In the Pan American Games, he will participate in the Kumite – 67 KG modality, from December 3 to 5.
5. Ángel Acevedo Sosa (21 years old): In the Rowing team, Ángel won a gold medal at the 2018 South American Youth Games and is champion of the Bolivarian Games Santa Marta 2017. He will compete from December 1 to 5 at Lake Calima.
6. César Cipriani Robles (20 years old): Césares National Champion 2021, in Rowing. Together with Ángel Acevedo, they are part of the 10-person team that Peru has in its rowing team.
7. Rafael Gálvez Zeuner (21 years old): Rafael is the only representative in the Squash delegation. He is the U-17 South American Champion, in Paraguay 2017; and obtained the bronze medal in the Pan American U-23 Championship, in Colombia 2021. In his individual competition, he will participate in the Cali Country Club between November 26 and December 2.
8. Lucía Llerena Llosa (20 years old): She is the only Peruvian representative in Windsurfing. Lucía is South American Champion Techno Class 293 (2015). Compete from December 2 to 5, 2021.
9. Volleyball equipment. In the national volleyball team, of the 12 athletes, the ‘Regatas’ contributes 4 athletes: Giulia Montalbetti Gómez de la Torre, Kiara Montes García, Thaisa Mcleod Alva and Flavia Montes Passalacgua.
