4 people die after fasting to “meet Jesus” at the request of a pastor

This Saturday, April 15, the Kenyan Police reported the case of four faithful who died after a cleric asked them fasting to “meet Jesus”. The deceased have not been identified. The head of this sect ended up going to the authorities on his own account. “The shepherd is arrested after he turned himself in because he knew he was wanted,” said Charles Kamau, head of criminal investigations for Malindi city.

However, it would not be the only similar event that happens in the town. Last Friday the 14th, 11 followers of the International Church of the Good News, led by Makenzie Nthenge, were taken to a local hospital for the same reason. Until then, three of them were in critical condition after being found in a forest of Shakahola.

Police authorities reported the case as follows: “Ignorant citizens who starved to death under the pretext of meeting Jesus after being brainwashed.”

Of this last group, it is known that seven were men and four were women between the ages of 17 and 49.

Among other information provided by the Police, is the reason why they went to the Shakahola forest. The officers said there would be a possible grave in the place, where other faithful would be buried. “It is suspected that there are many victims,” they said.

Regarding Nthenge, the local media reported that he had been arrested, but he was released after paying a bail of 670 euros, equivalent to $744.
