An American suspected of killing a Colombian DJ in Bogotá is arrested in Panama

An American suspected of killing his partner, a popular Colombian DJ, in Bogota was detained at Panama’s international airport as he was preparing to board a flight to Turkey, a police chief said Wednesday.

John Nelson Poulos, 35, was detained on Tuesday night by Immigration agents at the air terminal in the Panamanian capital. He was wanted in Colombia for the crime of Valentina Trespalacios, who was his girlfriend, whose body was found on Sunday in a garbage container in Bogotá.

“The Migration authorities managed to apprehend him at the Tocumen international airport after intelligence information was handled that he had entered our country and that his destination was Istanbul,” Police Commissioner Rolando Alonso told TVN. .

He added that the Colombian authorities had alerted the Panama Police that the American was wanted as a “suspect of the crime” of the 23-year-old DJ.

“What would correspond is that Migration deports him and returns him to the country of origin” or that the Colombian judicial authorities request his delivery to Panama, explained the commissioner.

According to TVN, Poulos had arrived in Panama on Monday.
