Andy Polo and Universitario would have reached an agreement for the entire 2023 season

Universitario de Deportes continues with its preparations for the 2023 season of Liga 1, as well as its participation in the Copa Sudamericana. Among the adjustments that the cream club has been making to its squad are several departures, but also the renewal of other players. One of these would be Andy Polo.

The left winger, who returned to Ate’s team in March after several years in the MLS, agreed to continue for the entire following campaign, according to journalist Gustavo Peralta.

Despite only scoring one goal and providing two assists in 28 local league games, Polo remained a starter in coach Carlos Compagnucci’s scheme, who will continue to lead the team for next year.

If there were no inconvenience, the 28-year-old soccer player would play his fourth South American with the ‘U’ and would seek his first national championship with the students. In his record as a cream player, only the 2016 Apertura Tournament and the 2011 U-20 Copa Libertadores count.

So far, six players have been confirmed to leave the merengue club: defenders Federico Alonso and Nelinho Quina, midfielders Rodrigo Vilca and Gerson Barreto, and wingers Alberto Quintero and Guillermo Larios. It is not ruled out that in the coming days the list of departures will increase.

As for reinforcements, the arrival of any footballer has not yet been closed. Names like Gabriel Costa, Ray Sandoval and Hugo Ancajima were the ones that sounded the loudest, but there have been no major news about their possible incorporation.
