Announce V edition of the Dominican Film Festival


In an event held at the Blue Mall Film Palace, they announced the opening date of the Festival of Dominican Cinema.

He festival will open its fifth edition with a red carpet and a gala on Monday, June 19 at Palacio del Cine Blue Mall Santo Domingo and will last 10 days until Wednesday, June 28 with “the biggest projection”, 10 feature films and 20 short films in premiere worldwide and more than 120 film productions.

The opening of the festival It will be held with the world premiere screening of the drama and action feature film ‘Rango de Honor’, a Dominican film directed by Carlos Salcedo, produced by Ángela Medina and script by Eudys Cordero, and based on the unpublished book by journalist José P. Monegro.

The closing will be scheduled for Wednesday June 28 with the international premiere of the film ‘La Cuna del Dembow’ directed by Rodrigo Rodríguez.

The details of the event were presented by the actress Angela Bernal, with the presence of the director and founder of the festival, Armando Guareno; its general producer, Jéssica Monegro; Guillermo Asencio, director of Palacio del Cine; sponsors, collaborators and media.

The nominees for the first national short film script contest ‘Shorts RD’ were presented at the event, with the winner being Carlos Alberto Martínez, Bhima Gandica and Gibelys Coronado with their short film ‘El Vacío’; who received as an award the cost coverage for the production of his short film that will be screened during the opening gala of the Festival of Cine Dominicano RD and later it will be screened in the twelfth edition of the Dominican Film Festival In New York.

During the presentation, Armando Guareño commented that this edition will be “special and with many novelties”, noting that more than 410 productions were received, of which 120 have been selected. He highlighted the increase in films that address the issue of gender violence and the prolific participation of women in film acting, production and direction.

“We are the festival with the greatest projection in the Dominican Republic, the only festival country-brand that projects the best of Dominican cinema abroad. In this edition, we return to make history for the second consecutive year, a before and after, a meeting of national relevance that places the Dominican Republic as a power in the film industry. An effort from the entire industry, which has gained international prestige for the quality of its productions and innumerable international recognitions,” said Guareño.

The billboard is complemented by an important official selection of films that will enter the competitions for feature films, documentary films, ‘made here’, children’s films, student films and ‘Dominicans in the diaspora’.

Guareño also cited the reinforcement in the Children and Youth Section, with the world premiere of the film ‘Owners of Time’, a production made in the Dominican Republic by the prominent Peruvian director Luis Llosa Urquidi.

Workshops & Conferences

Within the framework of the festival, a special room will be enabled where producers, directors and actors will participate in colloquiums, workshops and panels; as well as the unique opportunity for individual conversations with free access and open to the general public, with a view to contributing to the education and development of the film industry.
