“Aunt Paola”: Yanfry, the viral child from the Tiktok audio, campaigns against racism

yanfry is a 4-year-old boy who went viral in 2021 and who subsequently gained more notoriety after the publication of a video in which he tells his aunt and mother that his cousin was swearing: “Aunt Paola, mom, look that Camilo said something rude, I’m not going to say it”. The phrase was used taken out of context by several TikTok users and was used to derogatorily refer to people of African descent, as well as black objects and animals.

The minor recently published a video in which he exemplifies how the audio has been used in a racist way, when he is walking and two children yell at him “Aunt Paula” and they laugh.

yanfry He approaches and asks: “Why do they call her Aunt Paola?” They both reply:Because it’s Aunt Paola’s color”. The boy goes to look for his aunt, Paola Pantoja, who tells the children: “Do you know the damage that this can cause to others? You have to think before you speak.”

At the end of the video, a group of people come out next to the boy saying “No to racism”.

The video, published on the minor’s official account, yanfryeltierno, accumulates 67,586 likes and more than a thousand comments. “When we suffer from racism since childhood and one is not aware that it exists. It is a society that has to be reviewed”, commented a user of the social network.

“’Tía Paola’ is already famous, but we never saw it as racism, I think the success is the tenderness of the audio; In short, the perception depends on each person”, said another user.
