Bombshell! Marcelo Bielsa would be the new coach of Uruguay after the elimination of Qatar

One of the surprises of the Qatar 2022 World Cup was the early elimination of Uruguay at the hands of South Korea. Despite the fact that La Celeste prevailed against Ghana and equalized on points with the Asians, the criteria of goals in favor played against them and they had to leave the Middle East empty-handed.

However, a few hours after what happened, the Argentine journalist Joaquín Bruno revealed that Marcelo Bielsa would be in charge of taking the bench to replace the strategist Diego Alonso.

“Marcelo Bielsa will be the coach of the Uruguayan team. With the aim of qualifying Uruguay for the 2026 World Cup, he is the one chosen to succeed Alonso. The ‘Loco’ will have his third experience in South American teams. He returns to the continent one of the best ”, detailed the TyC Sports communicator on his Twitter account.

If the aforementioned is confirmed, this would be the third time for “Loco” in command of a South American team: he went through Argentina and Chile. With Abiceleste he managed to play Korea & Japan 2002 (eliminated in the group stage), while with La Roja he participated in South Africa 2010 (lost in the round of 16 against Brazil).

Let’s remember that the experienced coach managed, for the last time, at Leeds United in the Premier League. After returning the team to the top flight in 2020, Bielsa could not sustain the good performance and was dismissed in February 2022.
