Carlos Bilardo found out about the death of Diego Maradona when he saw his own biographical series

Almost a year and a half after the death of Diego Armando Maradona One of the personalities for whom this fact remained unknown was Carlos Salvador Bilardo, coach of “Pelusa” in the Argentine team and champion with him in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. This Saturday, an Argentine columnist revealed that the “Doctor” had already learned of the death of the maximum idol of the Albiceleste.

In his chronicle “Bilardo lived his way”, published on the Cenital portal, the writer Ezequiel Fernández Moores recounted the impressions generated by the former coach watching his documentary series “Carlos Bilardo: the soccer doctor”, produced by the HBO Max network . Upon reaching the last chapter, where the death of Maradona is mentioned, the reaction of the former DT is a brief silence.

“At one point, the screen says: ‘November 25, 2020. Diego Armando Maradona dies.’ (…) Bilardo sees the screen that tells of Diego’s death and says nothing. Simply, he puts his hands together”, narrates Fernandez Moores.

The decision not to tell Bilardo about the death of ’10’ was made by his most intimate environment due to the possible negative impact that the news could have had on his health, already affected by a neurodegenerative disease that he has suffered for some time.

The last public photo of the 83-year-old former strategist was taken in mid-February, when a group of players from the 1986 squad of the Argentine national team came to his home to present him with an Honorary Coaching License from Conmebol as a tribute for his trajectory.
