Catastrophe in the US: train with chemicals generates environmental disaster after derailing in Ohio

A train with chemical products derailed and started a toxic fire that caused a serious environmental damage in United States. Some 5,000 people from the city of Palestine, Ohiohad to be evacuated due to the phosgene and hydrogen chloride that formed in the region after they started a controlled burning of the substances to avoid a massive explosion.

The accident happened last Friday in East Palestine. After what happened, the authorities issued an evacuation for people living within 1.6 kilometers of the accident. Ohio Governor, Mike DeWinenoted that a “drastic change in temperature” was observed in a wagon and that work was underway to prevent the explosion.

The gases released generated concern in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania because they cause vomiting, difficulty breathing, among other symptoms, and were used as a weapon in the First World War.

At the moment, no fatalities have been reported from the event and, according to The Guardian, if the event had occurred to the east, the toxic fire would have poisoned the citizens of Pittsburgh.

The inhabitants of east palestine were evacuated, although, according to local officials, more than 500 residents refused to leave, according to CBS. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the causes of the accident. The evacuation extended to areas near Beaver County (Pennsylvania).
