Chayanne honored at Billboard Latin Music Awards

Chayanne is an icon of Latin music. And as such, the renowned Puerto Rican artist won the Icon award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2022.

The singer thanked his followers for their support over four decades, the Sony company and the press for publicizing his career.

“Thank you with all my heart, thank you for your applause, for this beautiful love that I receive and that I have received throughout my career,” he said, visibly moved.

And he continued: “You do things with love, you don’t know where you’re going to go, you deliver a song and it’s yours. I want to thank a lot of people. I thank Billboard, Telemundo, my friend who happens to be the president of Sony, and the entire company for their support and warmth from him.”

In the same way, he thanked his father who was on stage, his mother from heaven, his sister, wife, children and other relatives, who are his engine.

“In each country that is watching me in their homes right now, in one way or another they have always given me support… If you dedicate yourself and give your all, the result is always positive. This belongs to all of you” , he concludes.

Before receiving the distinction, he performed a performance with some of his hits and a new song.

Of his career

The interpreter of hits such as “Provócame”, “Dejaría todo” and “Tiempo de vals” received the award for a “extraordinary trajectory of more than four decades” in which “he has become one of the most beloved and respected artists in the entertainment world,” Billboard and Telemundo said in a statement.

“It is the phenomenon of the Latin artist who triumphs globally, always surrounded by millions of followers.”

Chayannewhose real name is Elmer Figueroa Arce, has sold more than 50 million records and reached number one on the Billboard charts with 25 songs, nine of them on the Hot Latin Songs list.

On that same list, he also managed to position 29 songs in the Top 10, a milestone that made him the third most successful male Latin pop artist in the history of the list, according to Billboard.

In 2002, his album “Grandes Hits” stayed at the top of the Latin Pop Albums chart for 10 weeks, the longest duration among his five No. 1 albums. He recently released “Te amo y punto”, his first single in more than four years, which peaked at No. 11 on the Latin Pop Airplay chart.

Billboard also honored legendary Spanish artist Raphael with the Lifetime Achievement Award, singer Christina Aguilera with the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award.

Also during the gala, José Feliciano received the Legend Award and Nicky Jam the Hall of Fame Award.
