Chile’s request before the TAS that would harm Peru in the Byron Castillo case

Byron Castillo’s novel has a new chapter again. Two months before the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Sports Arbitration Court (TAS) announced that it received the appeals presented by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) and the Chilean National Football Association (ANFP).

In the case of the southern team, the letter reveals that it was requested that Ecuador be subtracted from all the points of the matches in which the now defender of the León de México participated.

“The FFCH asks the CAS to determine that the player (Byron Castillo) was not eligible in the eight games he played in the qualifiers, and to consider those games lost by Ecuador, which would place Chile in fourth position in the qualifiers of the Conmebol”, reads in the letter.

The entity highlights that both parties requested that the ruling comes out no later than next November 10. Given this request, they noted that the respective arbitrations have already begun and a procedural calendar is being prepared.

It should be noted that, a few weeks ago, FIFA ratified Ecuador in two instances as the fourth South American team classified for the World Cup and dismissed the claim of the Mapochos and Incas about the alleged falsification of documents of the player Byron Castillo.

If there is a ruling in favor of Chile, the Red would reach 24 points and would stay in fourth place, while the Bicolor would not see its position affected and, therefore, would not attend the World Cup.
