German Embassy in Peru responds to López Aliaga and invites him to visit the LUM


The Embassy of Germany in Lima responded to criticism from the mayor of Lima, Rafael Lopez Aliagaand the invited to visit the museum LUM, a building that was built thanks to the economic contribution of 4.5 million euros from this entity. In addition, Sabine Blochrepresentative of this German diplomatic body, encouraged the burgomaster to undertake a “substantial dialogue” on the subject.

In the post shared by Facebook, the embassy reminded Aliaga of the importance of this space for reflection. “The LUM was created on the recommendation of the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It is a space of Ministry of Culture of Peru that offers, free, cultural, learning, research and commemoration activities to dialogue around human rights issues, focusing on the period of violence 1980-2000 in Peru, initiated by terrorist groups”, they specified.

What did López Aliaga say about the LUM?

During the swearing in of the mayor of the Miraflores MunicipalityCarlo Canales Anchorena, the controversial mayor of Lima, Rafael Lopez Aliaga, took the opportunity to give his point of view on the Place of Memory, Tolerance and Reconciliation (LUM)which is located in this district.

In his statements, the representative of the party popular renewal asked Canales to coordinate with the German Embassy, ​​which was the one that donated this space, so that the museum is administered by the Armed forces and the PNP.

“So, I ask you, Carlos (mayor of the Municipality of Miraflores), that we coordinate from Lima and Miraflores with the culture Ministry and with the German embassy so that this is administered by the Armed Forces, by the National Policethat they tell us the story as it is, who better than them to tell us what they have suffered”, he pointed out.
