The growing spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus has raised the concern of the Minister of Health, Hernando Ceballos, who referred to the possibility of fans returning to the stadiums for the next matches within the framework of the Qualifying Qatar 2022 and League 1.
In this regard, the head of the Ministry of Health pointed out that he will not risk the health of thousands of Peruvians due to the fervor of football, especially due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
The minister urged the population to respect the restriction measures to face the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted the responsibility of citizens to prevent further infections.
“We have to take care of ourselves, I understand that it is a sports festival, it is beautiful, but I am not going to allow people to get infected with me by the fervor of football, I think there is a responsibility to take care of citizens and avoid more infections” he told La República.
In this line, he referred to the DT of the Peruvian National Team, Ricardo Gareca, highlighting his professionalism, however, he stressed that the measures around the coronavirus in Peru depend on him, but not on the ‘Tiger’.
“The professor (Gareca) is an excellent technician, I admire him a lot but he is not in charge of the Ministry of Health. (…) You have to know that we also love football and we want full stands, but we also want our people healthy, “he said.
