Joe Biden warns Putin not to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine: “It would change the course of the war”

The president of United States, Joe Biden issued a warning to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin and urged not to use nuclear or chemical weapons in Ukraine. If he does, he will become the world’s biggest “outcast,” Biden said.

“No, no, don’t. It would change the face of war like never before since World War II.” he specified in an interview with “60 minutes”, a show on the CBS network.

In an excerpt from the advanced program this Saturday, journalist Scott Pelley asked the president about the possible response of the United States if Putin used nuclear or chemical weapons to change the course of the conflict in Ukraine. Biden replied that there would be “consequences” and that the Russians “would become the greatest outcasts the world has ever seen.”

“The answer will depend on the scope of what they do,” the Democratic leader added in the interview, which will air in its entirety on Sunday.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the United States, in coordination with its allies, has imposed sanctions on the Russian financial sector, Putin and dozens of officials, businessmen and oligarchs from that country, in addition to sending military aid to kyiv.

The war, stalled in eastern Ukraine for months, opened a new phase this week with the Russian withdrawal in the Kharkov region, which borders Donbas.

The United States believes that China and India are increasing “pressure” on the Kremlin to end the war after their leaders, Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi, expressed concerns to Putin about the consequences of the conflict.

In recent weeks, kyiv’s forces have recaptured swaths of territory in the east of the country that were previously occupied by the Russians.

However, President Putin assured last Friday that his offensive launched in late February in Ukraine will continue: “The plan does not require changes… We are not in a hurry,” remarked.

Meanwhile, Moscow is facing global outrage after the discovery of mass graves on the outskirts of the city of Izium, formerly occupied by Russia where, according to Ukrainian officials, the vast majority of exhumed bodies showed signs of torture.
