Maricarmen Marín on her wedding to Sebastián Martins: Being a mother has given me the illusion of getting married

At 8 months of having become a mother for the first time, the singer Maricarmen Marin makes its triumphant return to music and the chosen stage is the Vibra Peru Festival, which will take place on August 20 at the Jockey Club.

In a candid interview with La República, the ex-juror of “Yo soy” spoke of the future wishes she has for herself and her family, such as being accompanied by her daughter Michaela down the aisle at her wedding to the producer of “The Voice Peru” Sebastian Martins and have the group Agua Marina in the celebration. In addition, he also detailed his plans to return to television.

—Maricamen, you return to music in Peru while you are going through the stage of being a new mom…

—I am very happy that I have been invited to Vibra Peru. I’m preparing something special for this August 20, I’m going to meet again with the public live and direct. I gave birth to Micaela at the end of last year, she turned 8 months old and now I’m back to music. I traveled to Bolivia, I made some presentations there and I promoted the song ‘Dejar de amarte’. This would be my first concert in Peru. My return to music has been an illusion for me.

—Recently, you mentioned that the fact of being a mother does not prohibit you from moving forward with your career, could you explain that to us?

—Life has shown me that you can (keep working) as long as you want. I have chosen to be able to take Micaela to everything possible. She accompanied me to Bolivia. Thanks to my sister Amparito, who helps me with my daughter when I am in the middle of a concert or television program. I don’t have a babysitter, I’m assuming 100 percent myself (motherhood).

—Most artists choose to hire a nanny to help them, in your case, why did you decide not to have one?

—I’m reluctant to have a babysitter until Micaela is a little older. With Sebastián we take care of everything when I’m not working. Besides, we’ve wanted it so much and I’m enjoying it every minute of it. Micaela has just turned 8 months old and she has changed too much. I don’t want to miss any moment with her; is my priority.

—And with such a busy schedule in television and music, how do you make that possible?

—Sleeping little is not a problem for me, because I have always slept a few hours due to the work I have had. All my life I have stayed up late. On the contrary, waking up at night and seeing Micaela’s face is like ‘wow’.

—Did you ever think about getting away from your artistic life?

—I think it would be something sad for me, that’s why I looked for any way to be able to do what I like, which is acting, cinema, music.

—If you look back at the past, have several things changed in your life after Micaela’s arrival?

—I never imagined being this romantic mom that I am now. I am another Maricarmen wherever you see me. I’ve always had an affinity for children, but now forget it, I’m everyone’s advocate. On Tiktok I was struck by the kind of cruel jokes that adults make to little ones and it was impossible for me to remain silent. Children are there to care for and protect them; that is our mission as adults. If my other Maricarmen had seen me, she wouldn’t believe it (laughs).

—Now that you see life that way and Micaela is already 8 months old, is there a chance to be a mother again?

—Right now I’m trying to organize my life, I’m doing twice as much to be able to enjoy my daughter. Adding another creature to my life is a very big responsibility. I would love to take it on, for the family to grow, for my daughter to have a little brother, but not this year. My daughter is very young and I want to enjoy her.

—Regarding sentimental life, you postponed your wedding with Sebastian this 2022. Will they get married next year or have they decided to put it on hold?

—The subject of marriage is something that is there. I would love for Micaela to be a little older so that she can enjoy it and be the one to wear the earrings. Believe me, we are more excited to marry Micaela now. Now that I am a mother, I am more excited to involve her in that moment (her wedding) that would be special for us. I never take anything for granted, but that’s what we have so far.

“Is it true that you want Agua Marina to play in your marriage?”

—Yes, Agua Marina is my favorite group in life. The first song I danced to when I was a dancer was one by Agua Marina, all her songs are part of my story.

—After the end of ‘Yo soy’, do you have other projects on television?

—There are some proposals, let’s hope so (go back to television). We are waiting for more meetings to see if I return to TV.

Will that be in Latina or can we see you on another channel?

I can’t give you all that information (laughs) because there are projects in different places. In Bolivia there are also plans for television and maybe I’m going to stay there for a few months.
