Mexico condemns threats and extreme security against Peruvian diplomats in the country


This Friday, June 2, the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) “categorically” condemned the death threats by telephone against Peruvian diplomatic agents in Mexico and increased security “to prevent any attack against the person, freedom and dignity”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that “the investigations leading to clarify these unfortunate facts” were opened.

It was on May 31 that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that Julio Reinoso, Peru’s business manager, “received a death threat, through an anonymous message sent via WhatsApp to the emergency cell phone” of the General Consulate in the City from Mexico.

“You have 48 hours to get out of Mexico or we’ll take you out in a garbage bag,” is heard in one of the audios sent to Reinoso, who is in the Mexican capital to close commercial relations that were paused, as reported by AMLO. last week. In the clips, they also mention President Dina Boluarte.

The Mexico City Police was able to have access to the audios and requested security reinforcements at the consulate. For their part, the Peruvian authorities filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office.

These events occurred a week after the Peruvian Congress declared a person AMLO does not like for referring to the Peruvian crisis, he described Boluarte as a “usurper” and expressed his rejection of giving the presidency of the Pacific Alliance to the Peruvian country.
