The planet Earth It is always in constant risk of being hit by various comments or asteroids with orbits that place them 30 million miles (48 million kilometers) away. These elements could cause serious damage, so NASA and other organizations around the world are working together to counteract them.
In this way the mission arises Double Asteroid Redirection Test, better known as DART. The Redirection Test consists of deliberately colliding a ship and changing the motion of the asteroid heading towards Earth.
“DART will be the first demonstration of the ‘kinetic impactor’ technique in which a spacecraft deliberately collides with a known asteroid at high speed to change the asteroid’s motion in space,” said Lindley Johnson, planetary defense officer for The NASA.
That line, NASA has been monitoring those space rocks that represent a threat to the planet and thus create possible scenarios and techniques that allow to protect the Earth from a possible impact.
What asteroids could hit Earth?
The institution has given notice of a series of asteroids that will be approaching the planet in the coming years. These rocks had different characteristics and sizes.
One of them, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, exceeded in dimensions the Great Pyramid of Giza, the largest of the pyramids in Egypt.
