Ovid Guzman He was arrested last Thursday, January 5, at dawn by the Army and the National Guard in a community of Culiacán, Jesús María, located 45 kilometers from the city center. According to the Secretary of National Defense, the son of Mexico’s most popular drug trafficker, “El Chapo” Guzmán along with his faction of the cartel of sinaloa They responded with bullets and left around 29 dead among them, 10 soldiers.

The city of Culiacán experienced moments of terror throughout the day on Thursday, January 5. The ‘Chapitos’ attacked the city’s airport, spread fear in the streets and the López Obrador government itself asked citizens not to mobilize in the streets.

Many do not forget the initial decision in the mandate of López Obrador, where in the first year as president of Mexico requested the release of Ovidio Guzmán due to the violent acts and reprisals taken by the ‘Chapitos’ faction for the capture of their leader in 2019. What’s more, some politicians and citizens considered it a “cowardly” decision on the part of the President.

Thus, since the recapture of one of the sons of ‘Chapo’ Guzmán, most Mexicans have considered this event as a success by the Government of López Obrador. According to Enkoll survey data, a 67% consider the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán successful in Culiacan, Sinaloa.

On the other hand, one of the questions in the survey indicates whether this fact is favorable or not for the current mandate of Manuel Andrés López Obrador and the population, at the national level, say that they support the Government. While 50%, in the city of Culiacán, respond that it is favorable.

It should be noted that, in surveys carried out by enkoll the responses of the citizens appeal to the mandate strategy with respect to national security in the last governments. Both Felipe Calderón (2006-2012), Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018) and Manuel Andrés López Obrador (2019-present) register a similar partial objective: eradicate criminal organizations and present the capture of their leaders.

According to the Enkoll survey, they asked about the security felt by the citizens of the North American country after the recapture of Ovidio ‘El Ratón’ Guzmán. Do you feel more or less secure in your state?. At the national level, 42% of the population says they feel safe and 29% neither more nor less safe than before.

However, in the state of Culiacán, the response was emphatic: 47% of people feel less safe than before; only 17% say otherwise.

Despite the uncertainty in culiacan the public affirms that the level of confidence in President Manuel Andrés López Obrador is 51%. Surprisingly, people believe the president more than before and this is due to the recapture of Ovidio Guzmán. For its part, the percentage of confidence, at the national level, amounts to 60%.
