Russia and Nicaragua develop a vaccine against dengue that requires high technology

The Russian-Nicaraguan Joint Venture Mechnikov has developed a vaccine against dengue, he assured this Wednesday, May 24 Veronika Skvortsovahead of the Russian Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA).

“At the initiative of the (Nicaraguan) president, Daniel Ortegaa dengue vaccine has been developed, which will enter the clinical trial phase in the near future,” he said, at a session of the Eurasian Economic Forum that is being held this Wednesday in Moscow, according to the official TASS agency.

He pointed out that, for the creation of a dengue vaccine, high technology is required so that it does not have adverse reactions.

“The vaccine has been developed and we will test it together,” he added.

According to Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), close to 500 million people in the Americas are at risk of contracting dengue.

The infection can be asymptomatic or cause symptoms ranging from mild to disabling high fever, with severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, and rashes.

The disease can evolve to a severe denguecharacterized by shock, shortness of breath, severe bleeding, or serious organ complications.
