Russia demands that Israel cease its airstrikes in Syria, while the siege in Ukraine continues

Since Moscow, the Government of Russia condemned the alleged air attacks perpetrated, during the past weekend, by Israel near a Russian construction located in Syria. The Kremlin described as “categorically unacceptable” the military campaign that the country allied to the United States maintains with its neighboring nation and has demanded the cessation of war activity.

“We strongly condemn these irresponsible actions that violate Syria’s sovereignty and the basic norms of international law, and we demand their unconditional cessation,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

The missile attack took place on Saturday morning, on a naval base near the city of Al Hamidiyah. During the incident, two civilians were injured, while serious damage was reported to infrastructure in the area, as reported from Moscow.

However, the demand by the Russian government seems contradictory while the siege of the town of Lisichansk, the last Ukrainian stronghold in the separatist region of Lugansk, in the midst of the war with Ukraine, is being raised.

For some years now, Israel has carried out airstrikes on Syria. In this regard, the Middle Eastern country has indicated that military actions are carried out against some bases of the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah, located in the neighboring nation.

In this sense, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights affirmed that the objective of the aggression was to stop an exchange of weapons in favor of the terrorist organization, although no public entity or the Israeli Government has confirmed that this information is true.
