South Korea: Worker Suffers Fatal Accident at Incheon Airport

On Tuesday, April 26 at 5:00 pm (local time), an accident was reported at the Incheon City Airport in South Korea involving a worker from Korea Airport, a subsidiary company of Korean Air.

According to the report of the authorities, the man was in the local repair facilities inspecting a vehicle used to tow planes, when suddenly, in the middle of his work, he was trapped between a wheel and the hulk of this vehicle, and finally passed away.

According to one of the collaborators present at the time of the accident, the deceased, identified as Mr. A. (37) He was lifting the rear wheel of the tug, with the intention of inspecting the oil levels and making sure there are no leaks, when suddenly the engine turned off, which caused the wheel to return to its original position, dragging the worker along the way, and leading to his death.

Other company workers alleged that at the time of the accident there were no warnings or qualified safety supervision personnel, a fact that, they indicate, was a long-standing situation, which the union attributed to a significant dismissal by hand. of work in this sector, a version denied by the company, which reported that the pertinent investigations will be awaited to resolve the case.

The place where this event was recorded is a space where a total of 50 people normally work, which are protected by the severe accident punishment law, contemplated in the South Korean legal code. In this sense, the local police have begun to gather the necessary information to determine the relevant responsibilities, both from personnel who could have been present at the time of the incident and from the company itself.

For his part, the Ministry of Employment of South Korea ordered the cessation of all activity in the area where the accident occurred and also opened its own investigation file against the company of the deceased worker, in order to verify if the law of punishment of severe accidents was violated due to negligence or omission of adequate protection for the work environment.
