Super Mario movie had the second best weekend

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” had the best second weekend for any animated film in USAgrossing $87 million, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

Even so, the animated film is down 41% from its opening weekend.

At $94 million internationally, “Mario’s” global total now stands at $678 million, surpassing “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” to become the biggest hit movie of 2023 in just two weekends.

“Mario” had little competition, although “Renfield,” “The Pope’s Exorcist,” “Mafia Mamma” and “Suzume” were released. In two weeks, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” will be released.

“The Pope’s Exorcist” earned $9.2 million by opening in 3,178 theaters.

In third place was “John Wick: Chapter 4” in its fourth weekend with $7.9 million, and it has a domestic total of more than $160.1 million.

“Renfield” went to fourth place with 7.7 million dollars.

“Air,” the movie about “Air Jordan” sneakers, raked in $7.7 million in its second weekend and its domestic total stands at $33.3 million.

The animated “Suzume” opened in 2,170 theaters and grossed $5 million.

“Beau is Afraid” opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles, grossing $320,396. As of Friday it opens nationally.
