The 2022 Book Fair opens this Friday


The week of the 24th Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2022 (FILSD) has arrived, which will be inaugurated tonight by President Luis Abinader and will remain open to the public from Saturday, April 23 to May 2, in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo .

The cultural event is dedicated to Dominican writers Carmen Natalia and Pedro Peix, and will feature the European Union as a special guest.

Once again the Historic Center has been chosen instead of the traditional Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte.

The director of the Book Fairs, Joan Ferrer, and the general producer of the FILSD, Rey Andújar, as well as the Deputy Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship, Ramón Pastor De Moya, have stated that the Colonial City aims to promote tourism culture and the literature. Some pavilions will be inside museums.

In addition, private cultural spaces, such as the Cultural Center of Spain, have joined the fair celebration with a program.

More than 150 writers will participate in the event and 85 new books and magazines will be put into circulation in different scenarios.

News

Among the novelties of the first fair that is in charge of the management of Milagros Germán at the head of the Ministry of Culture, and this year has as its motto “Come to the book”, there is a business center, in which literary agents and publishers Internationals will hold meetings with local writers around marketing.

Added to this are around 60 literary workshops for young people and adults, 30 children’s workshops, 50 training cycles and 50 conferences and talks, which will take place during this cultural event.

There will be a Free Tribune and a Pavilion for the Blind in the Police Museum.

Among the authors who have ensured their presence are the Spaniards Manuel Vilas, JJ Armas Marcelo, Juana Salabert, Miqui Otero and Yolanda Castaños; Argentines Mempo Giardinelli, Nora Rabinowicz and Valeria Correa Fiz; Mexicans Mario Bellatin and David Toscana.

For lovers of comics, illustrations, superheroes and villains, there will be the Dominican Comic Pavilion. The groups dedicated to the production and dissemination of this genre in the country that will have their booth in this pavilion are Papaya Studio, Moro Studio, Alpha Eve and Litevisual Studios.

Pavilions

You can visit the Pavilion of the European Union, in the Capilla de los Remedios; Literary Workshops, at the National School of Visual Arts; the Carmen Natalia pavilion at the Banreservas Cultural Center; and of Dominican Authors, in the House of the Jesuits.

In addition, visit the Alcázar de Colón, the Museum of the Royal Houses, the Museum of the Royal Shipyards, the Casa de Tostado, the Trampolin Museum and the Ozama Fortress, among other spaces.

Children’s and youth literature

Children will have their space in the Trampoline Museum, which has audiovisual resources that have been adapted to visits from schools and colleges. As part of the Children’s Fair, this Saturday at 11:00 in the morning the playwright Lorena Oliva will perform “The rebellion of words”, Laura Vicens will tell the story “Happiness sticky”, and they will have a painting workshop at 2: 00 in the afternoon.

The poet Yolanda Castaño and the novelist Miqui Otero will develop an agenda that includes talks. During the programming of the CCESD, a cinema forum will be opened that will continue for the rest of the year, called “Read the movies”about Spanish films based on books of Spanish authors. The first will be on April 27 with “El Sur”, by Spanish director Víctor Erice, given by journalists louis beiro Y Gabriela Read.

where to park

For many, traveling to the Fair can be a limitation, but the organizers have prevented this by setting up hundreds of parking lots, distributed between the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte and the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Users of these parking lots will be transferred free of charge to the fairgrounds in buses chartered by the ministry, during the ten days of the great event.

Another option, in addition to own vehicles, are traditional and platform taxis and the bus service.

The Colonial City awaits you during this fair week.
