Chile renews its railway system and surprises with the first tests of the fastest train in South America. The machines are capable of reaching a speed of 160 kilometers per hourthus reducing the travel time from 5 to 3 hours and 40 minutes on its route to unite Chillán with Santiago.
The train fleet is from China and they were made by the construction company Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC). These vehicles have a curious characteristic, since they have bimodal power systems, that is, they work with electricity and diesel.
According to the Ministry of Transport, once the trains are operational they will be able to transport more than 800,000 passengers. They will be able to travel quickly and comfortably on the Santiago – Chillán route.
The speed of the trains has not gone unnoticed in TikTok where the user Cazatrenes revealed in a video the first evidence of the passage of the train on the rails on its route to the city of Chillán.
The acquisition of the new fleet is part of the plan “Trains for Chile” which also seeks to improve and rehabilitate the stations Rancagua, San Fernando, Curico, Molina, San Javier, Linares, Parral, San Carlos and chillan.
