The filmmaker Rolando Díaz celebrates the award for “Dossier de Absencias”

The Cuban filmmaker Rolando Díaz was “full of pride” today for having won, with his film “Dossier de Ausencias”, the award for the best production of the “Ibero-Latino Film Festival Americano di Trieste “(Northeast Italy).

The Dominican Republic swept the 36th edition of the festival, held from November 6 to 15 in the Italian town, after winning an award for its three films presented, with the documentary by Díaz at the forefront, which follows the investigation of a journalist on the case of a girl given up for adoption.

The story is based on a real case that occurred in 1995 and that the film’s journalist and screenwriter, Alfonso Quiñones, investigated to rmake this documentary, starring the Dominican actress Judith Rodríguez.

For his part, the Dominican screenwriter Carlos Cuarón was awarded best screenplay for the film ‘Amalgama’, while the Dominican film “Malpaso” received the special jury award for its “very effective and essential cinematographic language”.

He also highlighted “the credible psychological development” of the protagonists, two orphans trying to survive on the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti by selling coal.

The other winners of the festival were the Argentine Martín Desalvo, who won for best director with “El silencio del Cazador”, and the Chilean film “The fire look”, directed by Tatiana Gaviola, for best film.

The women won the other awards, as the Portuguese actress Anabela Moreira won the best performer for her role in ‘O Último Banho’, and the protagonists of the Mexican film “Nudo Mixteco” took the special mention.
