The economic crisis, technology and globalization have been the cause of us not enjoying the calendars that companies, pharmacies and other commercial establishments gave their customers at the end of the year.
The first thing we did was see how many holidays that year had, which could be seen in the distance, because they were painted red, or Easter and even Christmas, with twelve months to go. It also helped us to plan “long” weekends.
Many of these calendars had different covers to choose from. For example, women in bikinis were chosen by men; those of images of artists were for adolescent girls; Catholic people looked for the images of the Virgin of Altagracia.
Virtuality took over the change.
These calendars, which occupied a very important place in homes and offices, because they marked the difficult days or “the rule” of the woman, placing circles in the numbers; the financial debts, the day the comb was passed or the smoothing was done until the gas for cooking was bought.
I am already getting ready to look for the 2023 calendar of the Baiosi Hardware Store, on Avenida Circunvalación de Los Ríos, a family establishment that provides good service to the neighborhood where I lived for 19 years.
Let’s rest our cell phones and eyes, let’s live an experience like never before, encouraging physical calendars, give a Christmas photo with your family and it will always be present in that home, since there is no time or space to enjoy friendship.
