This date was instituted under Decree 4476 of 1974 by the then President of the Republic, Joaquin Balaguer. They chose this day after the General Directorate of Telecommunications carry out exams to grant official cards to broadcasters in Santo Domingo in 1938, with the intention of regularizing national radio broadcasting.

To commemorate this day, the Dominican College of Announcers will hold this afternoon the 9na. Edition of the National Broadcaster Award 2023.
The event will take place at 6:00 pm in the auditorium of the Mauricio Báez Cultural Center.
