Tonight you can see the International Space Station from the Peruvian sky

NASA’s Spot The Station interactive platform has revealed that the International Space Station (ISS) It will be visible to Peru this Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 8.35 pm —for two minutes—, and in some days until it reaches the night of the 18th, during its journey in low Earth orbit. However, the ship will only appear for a few minutes in the sky; in some departments it will be better appreciated.

As the light of the Sun will intensify the position of the artificial satellite, we must be attentive to the precise moments in which it will cross the celestial vault. On numerous occasions, sky watchers confuse it with Venus and the Moon, although it is located at an altitude of approximately 400 km above the surface of our planet, unlike the aforementioned celestial bodies.

The station usually houses a rotating crew, that is, it varies according to its six-month protocol calendar. This unique experience serves to study the effects of living in an environment outside the Earth animal development and biotechnology, immersion in microgravity, and how confinement affects mental health.

The sightings in Lima specifically will continue to be possible this Thursday, January 6 at 7.47 pm, as reported by the NASA application chart:

Arequipa: from 6.59 pm (Peru time) for five minutes with a maximum height of 19 °. Subsequently, it will be seen again from 8.36 pm for just one minute at a maximum height of 13 °.

Cusco: from 7.01 pm (Peru time) for four minutes with a maximum height of 14 °. Subsequently, it will be seen again from 8.36 pm for just one minute at a maximum height of 14 °.

Huancayo: from 8.36 pm for just one minute at a maximum altitude of 20 °.

Lime: from 8.35 pm for two minutes at a maximum altitude of 27 °.

Trujillo: from 8.36 pm for one minute at a maximum height of 21 °.

Chiclayo: from 8.36 pm for one minute at a maximum height of 18 °.

Piura: from 8.36 pm for one minute at a maximum height of 15 °.

If for any reason you cannot see the artificial satellite, these are the hours for Thursday, January 6:

Arequipa: from 7.47 pm (Peru time) for four minutes with a maximum height of 35 °.

Cusco: from 7.48 pm (Peru time) for four minutes with a maximum height of 51 °.

Huancayo: from 7.47 pm for four minutes at a maximum altitude of 80 °.

Piura: from 7.49 pm for two minutes at a maximum altitude of 17 °.

Iquitos: from 7.50 pm for one minute at a maximum height of 23 °.

After the International Space Station crosses the horizon, staying in a place of absolute darkness will make it easier to detect it among the stars.
