As part of the activities for its XI anniversary, the Perelló Cultural Center (CCP) opens this Tuesday, September 27, 2022, starting at 6:00 pm, the exhibition “Clara Ledesma: magical universe”, which integrates a valuable selection of works corresponding to the collection of Fernando Báez Guerrero and his wife Nancy Tavárez de Báez, curated by specialists Amable López Meléndez and Lilian Carrasco.
Julia Castillo de Lozano, director of the Perelló Cultural Center, said that it is a great honor for the Perelló family to present to the public a selection of pieces through which the different formal and stylistic processes that characterized Ledesma’s work can be appreciated. Clara Ledesma (1924-1999) She is recognized as one of the fundamental personalities of the plastic arts in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean region. Her work and personality have been contextualized and appreciated at the same level as those of women artists such as the Brazilian Tarsila do Amaral, the Mexican Frida Kahlo and Leonora Carrington, and the Cuban Amelia Peláez, among other emblematic exponents of 20th-century Latin American art.
The exhibition becomes the prelude to the celebrations for the centenary of Clara Ledesma’s birth in 2024, already promoting the study, analysis and investigation of her contributions to Dominican, Latin American and Caribbean art.
