“We were sent to die”: Russian soldier captured by Ukrainians asks his mother for help

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, through its social networks, published a video on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, showing the communication of a Russian soldier, imprisoned with his mother.

The audiovisual material of the young man’s call, lasting more than two minutes, is accompanied by a text detailing the alleged conditions of the soldiers of Vladimir Putin during the invasion of Ukraine.

“The captured Russian occupier speaks of atrocities in his army: the officers (of Russia) kill their wounded soldiers, leave the dead on the battlefield, do not notify the relatives”, reads during the beginning of the text presented by the Ukrainian security service.

“They sent us to die. They kill the wounded themselves!” continues the soldier’s message transcribed in the post.

The soldier, through tears, asks his mother to make the situation public, before the Union of Committees of Mothers of Soldiers of Russia (SKSM for its acronym in Russian), so that they help him get out of there.

“The invader cries and asks his mother to apply to the Union of Mothers of Russia, hoping for an exchange,” follows the publication that accompanies the clip.

Finally, the post published by the Ukrainian authorities indicates that the soldier also “fears for the fate of his relatives, so he asks not to tell the whole truth about the war in Ukraine, so as not to fall under the repression of the Russian secret services” .

During the last weeks of February, the website recently created by the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine reveals the testimonies of at least two imprisoned Russian soldiers, in which they denounce that they were forced to be part of the war by order of Vladimir Putin.

“Mom, dad, I didn’t want to come here. They forced me”, were the words of a prisoner Russian soldier, who does not exceed 25 years.

In another recording shared by the ground troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the moment in which a Russian soldier began to cry without being able to explain the reason why he came to fight against Ukraine can be seen.

In recent days, the Ukrainian government has created a website with information on Russian soldiers who have been taken prisoner or have died since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
