What is the hidden power behind a goal map?

With everything you do you are working goals. A goal is that end point we want to reach and for which we strive.

Working to earn an income, joining a partner to feel loved and safe, traveling to meet, reading to learn, exercising to feel better… these are actions that ultimately become goals, dreams or objectives achieved.

In the webinar organized by AFP popular “The hidden power in the goal map; vision board”, and given by the couches Veruschkca Nuñez and Felipe Rodriguez, explained the power of a goal maphow to elaborate it, the impact of visualizing your goals, because power is generated and how this tool increases the probability of achieving your objectives.

What is a vision board?

The goal map it is a creative tool that helps to visualize the achievements we desire. This resource allows us to develop that creativity that we all have to project with images, words, or phrases, what we want so much. “When you connect with that, you say: I’m going there.”

What happens to you when you make a goal map?

Psychologist Felipe Rodriguez understands that the dream map is not a craft, but rather a powerful tool that unleashes inner power. Knowing where you are going helps to make the right decisions to act with focus.

“As you find, people who have their goals in writing achieve it,” says Rodríguez.

enjoy the process

As a rule, sometimes we set ourselves goals that we cannot achieve in a certain period of time, and these goals are usually present in several consecutive plans.

In this case, Veruschkca Nuñez recommends valuing the process more than the result. Since, although we do not notice it since we wrote it, we are working on it, and many external favors can influence that goal not being reached in the scheduled time.

“When you have the goals in writing, you are already declaring what you want from there,” he says.

  • Recognize your achievements: An important point is to recognize what did go well, what you did achieve and see it from all areas of life: economy, studies, home, travel, getting married, health, etc.

The power

Creating a vision board gives us confidence. “Power is that level of confidence that arises within me. A belief activates a thought, and that directs attention to the brain and stimuli from the environment are activated to find evidence. That is, when we activate that internal filter, everything happens, because we focus on that”.

“What you have in your mind is what shapes your future”

  • Habit 2: “Start with an end in mind”

This is the second of seven habits of highly effective people, according to Dr. Stephen R. Covey in his book. With this habit, the psychologist and industrial couch states that it is necessary, important, and powerful to begin with the end of the mind, since it creates the plan, design, and outline of what we want to be, and what we want to do as people and as organizations.

  • It’s not the house, it’s what it means to you

Do we want to be, do or have? Veruschkca Nuñez explains that, to be more, you have to do things and when you do those things you will have. That is, that being, doing and having are connected.

In back of reach a goal there are other gains. For this reason, it is important that in each goal you achieve, you review what you have and review how that achievement has changed your life.

It is not about “buying the house”, it is about what it means for you to buy that house (security, stability…)

“That power that is generated by reaching a goal is what helps you to achieve other goals in life. Setting goals, visualizing yourself and achieving them generates self-confidence for future goals”, says Nuñez.

What is behind these goals?

  • graduate: behind this achievement you gain self-confidence, self-image, status, self-esteem, self-confidence, willpower…
  • Save the proposed: behind this achievement you gain learning to believe, discipline, willpower, willpower, abundance mentality, determination…

Steps to create a vision board

  • Evaluate- Be: At this point, evaluate the achievements of the past year. What correct actions did you take to achieve it? Which of your goals were left unfinished? What new goals are you going to incorporate?

When you answer these questions you will have a clearer idea. There is no clean slate, it is necessary to evaluate what you have already done and start from there. Make your list of achievements and value yourself, sometimes we are unfair and we do not appreciate what we have achieved and on many occasions we have achieved things that we did not imagine.

In the evaluation we must include the areas of the wheel of life: leisure, friends, health, money, love, family, profession, personal development. Evaluate each point and then ask yourself in which area I will set goals.

  • Define-do: after evaluating it is necessary to define, because sometimes we have a list of goals, and we do not have habits. And it is necessary to have habits that help us meet the goals.

Also, everything you dream of is not what you should consider for this year. Define the goals you want to work on now. It can be one, two, three or five, but the priority and realistic ones. At this point also consider the elements that hinder your path. What is your reality? What internal and external resources do you have to face the obstacles?

Felipe Rodriguez, states that habit 7 “Sharpen the saw” of the seven habits of highly effective people, refers to the principles of balanced self-renewal and states that we all have four main dimensions that determine our personality and the way in which we act: the physical, the social, the mental and the spiritual. “Setting goals in each of these areas, every week is essential.”

  • Physical: physical training.
  • Mental: it has to do with reading.
  • Emotional social: with myself and with society (massage, neighborhood meeting, vacations)
  • Spiritual: it has to do with the peace that transcends. (Philosophy that inspires you, bible…)

“When you achieve your goals, the most important thing is who you become when you achieve them.”

  • Design – have: After evaluating what I have achieved and defining what I want to achieve, I design how I am going to have it. And this point I collect the materials I need to create my goal map:

Usually, if the vision board is physical, you need: cork or cardboard or letter board, generic images and numbers, personalized images (photos and brands).

Care! Select the images carefully, because images have power and if you choose negative images or pessimistic phrases, that will attract you. Instead, use words or phrases that indicate you’ve already done it.

How many to do?

You can create the amount of vision board you want: family, couple, personal, work or all. The important thing is to capture what you want to achieve and constantly visualize it.

Vision Board for Families: when we do a goal map family, it is not a map of yours, but of your partner and your children, that means that you must let their creativity come out and project themselves as they want.

Note: just creating the vision board does not meet the goals, you have to keep an agenda and an action plan.

What if I am not clear about what I want?

To set goals, you need to ask yourself: What is your purpose in life? What is your identity? What matters most to you in life? When you have these answers, you can start considering the goals of 2023.

If you don’t know yet, make a list of the things you don’t want. Then remove the no’s and there you will find what you want.
