WhatsApp adds ‘voice states’ to share songs or other audio with your friends

The ‘voice states’, also called ‘audio states’, have just landed in version 2.23.2.8 of WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging app. Thousands of people who have access to this beta (exclusively for Android devices) can now share their favorite songs or any other recording with their friends, family, co-workers, among other contacts.

At the moment, the exact date on which this new feature will reach users in a general way is unknown; however, it will most likely be enabled in the coming weeks. Those who already have this feature on their phone have noticed that it is easy to use, they will only have to press the microphone icon that appears when they try to share a WhatsApp status.

Unlike Instagram states, in which users have an audio gallery, in WhatsApp, people will have to record their own voice message. It could be a greeting that accompanies a photograph or your favorite song that is playing on the radio. It is worth noting that you can only record up to 30 seconds, you cannot exceed that time.

Before sharing the status with your friends, family, coworkers, among other people, the app will give you the option to play it to verify that everything is fine. According to the developers, this type of message has end-to-end encryption, that is, only you and all the contacts you select will be able to see it, the rest of the people will not.

How to install the latest WhatsApp beta?

To access the beta, you need to search for WhatsApp in the Play Store. Once inside, you will see the button ‘Become a tester’, you have to press it and wait for them to accept you. If your request is accepted, the name of the application will change and now add the word (beta). In the same way, you will have an update, which you must download. Keep in mind that, being a test version, it may have some errors that you must report.

Trick to share audios in your WhatsApp states

Because, for a long time, WhatsApp did not allow you to share audio in your states, users found a homemade trick that makes it possible to do so. The only requirement is to have Spotify or any other app that plays music in the background. Here we show you the steps:

  • Make sure that the rear camera of your cell phone is covered. For that, you can place the phone on a table, bed, desk, or any other flat surface.
  • Go to Spotify and search for your favorite song.
  • Enter to WhatsApp and select states.
  • Go back to Spotify, hit ‘play’ on your favorite song.
  • Return to WhatsApp and press the record button in the states.
  • Because the camera is covered, the song will be recorded with a dark background, which you can decorate with stickers, emojis, texts, among other elements.
