With Argentina as champion: when do the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup start?

The Argentine team defeated France 4-3 on penalties in Qatar 2022 and won its third star. In this sense, the South American teams are already thinking about the next qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

In a recent press conference, the Blanquirroja coach, Juan Reynoso, detailed when the qualifiers would start. “In March, the FIFA date will most likely be respected and it seems that it will be for friendlies, but that part is a question mark. If it is official that the tie begins, suddenly it would complicate us in something because it would be much more premature.

“We would like that date to continue growing in some things, although, if not, we will surely adapt to the circumstances. And, if it is in June, it would be better because we would have one more week for the players to compete from another place ”, pointed out.

The qualifiers would be starting in June 2023. Initially it was scheduled for March, but the date was abandoned.

The 2026 World Cup will have 48 teams instead of the 32 that reached the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Conmebol was benefited with two extra slots, now having 6.5 qualifiers. The last quota will go to a repechage and the rival of the federation is yet to be defined.
